What is the Walk of Fame?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a 2.4 miles sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, Los Angeles where Hollywood’s icons are immortalized with a star on the pavement.

There are more than 2,400 five-pointed stars featuring the names of human celebrities and fictional characters honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for their contributions to the entertainment industry in five categories: Motion Pictures, Live Theatre/ Performance, Television, Recording and Radio.

The Walk of Fame is maintained by the self-financing Hollywood Historic Trust.

Who can be nominated for a Walk of Fame Star?

Any celebrity standing out in any of the categories listed above may be nominated.

Who can do the nominating?

Anyone, including a fan, can nominate a celebrity as long as the celebrity or his/her management is in agreement with the nomination. If there is no letter of agreement included from the celebrity or his/her representative, the committee will not accept the application.

Nomination process

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame Committee is responsible for selecting a new group of entertainers each year to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. New recipients are announced each June for the following year. In order for a person to get a star on the Walk of Fame, he or she must agree to attend a presentation ceremony within five years of selection.

What is the cost of a Walk of Fame Ceremony?

$25,000. The sponsor (such as film studios, record companies or fan clubs) must pay the fee to the Hollywood Historic Trust after selection. The money is used to pay for the creation and installation of the star, security and publicity as well as maintenance of the Walk Of Fame.
